monkey temple

the long walk to the monkey temple, walking through some of the poorer areas of kathmandu, the buddha feet carved into stone decorated with rice and bits of yellow paint, small flowers perhaps, seems idyllically spiritual, but like many religious sites, it was a strange combination of crumbling architecture, thousands of religious icons sculpted for tourists and lots of trash thrown off the hill into the trees, trees filled with monkeys, strung with prayer flags, and occasionally a small child. We took a cab back, the cabs, in theory, drive on the left side of the road, in practice they drive down the middle daring the approaching car or pedestrian to pull over, and honking the entire time.  There are no stop signs or lights that I have been able to find. It was great to see Chris work with the children for photographs
