why this mountain

Jay, that's my dad, always loved the mountains and once did the annapurna trek, one of the high points of his hiking life.  He was  walker and dragged me all over the Uintah Mountains when I was a teenager.  Then there was "an everlasting itch for the things remote", as Melville puts it, in his quest for the Whale, which for me can be a symbol for many things.  But I never wanted to mountaineer up a summit and freeze my toes and fingers, until serendipitously I ran into Chris Vultaggio, who was working on a job (and climbing) in Vegas.  He told me about the trek, he was all excited about it.   Chris is an idealistic, optimistic, generous  person and invited me along. I thought, I would never do that, then the next day I thought, let me check my calendar, then the next day I said I do want to do that, then the next day I said, sign me up.
