Thursday, first night at camp one the Russians are trying to
attach themselves to us so they can use our lines, we just want to stay out of
their way. Weather is good I will try to set up camp two today, and start up
toward the mushroom where camp three is, to see what conditions are
like. Tom will rest at camp one and get further acclimatized. I am perched on a
knife edge ridge and can see all the way down to Tengbuche.
Thursday camp two
We are back at camp one sipping ginger tea and advil. We made the climb, jumar
or climb, climbers choice, carrying the tent and other supplies. I accomplished
my dream! Boots and crampons at camp two. I set up the tenton a tiny
platform, one wrong step and it is thousands of feet down. Tom was falling
asleep so I gave him a snickers bar and we started the slow descent to camp
one. No one managed to negotiate the ice below camp 3 yet. But now all I need
to worry about is melting ice for a while and deciding which freeze dried meal
is dinner.
