Circles of Water

In the mountains, there is often the scent of juniper, and the faint smoke of juniper burning, an incense, every path is marked by rows of prayers stones, prayers written into the rock, shrines and prayer flags. In Dingboche, the prayer markers included stones, placed on top of the prayer tablets, with a coat of new snow.  A very good place to turn the wheel of dharma

A good place to turn a prayer wheel and to hang a row of prayer flags, first thing, hang a row of prayer flags over the tent.
 the prayer flags over Lukla...

The large Boudha complex in Kathmandu is being rebuilt, after the earthquake.
in Kathmandu, even the most Buddhist sites are layered with Hindu devotional niches, outside many doorways is a little mandala shrine, decorated with color, bits of flower, or rice. Inside the painting studio we found the Tanhka painters, and golden Buddhas waiting, faceless.

We watched the endless burnings early in the morning, just ordinary offerings, we sat in the Golden Temple beneath the empty staircase, and in the Namche Gompa, drawing next to the empty chair, pondered the pathways of our feet beneath the towering prayer stones.
