Our interpreter, Gloria, and Jeff who really likes the kids
We sit on the ground and make corn husk dolls, these are the prototypes, developed through much trial and error, below right are my dolls and the ones the villager made while we were sitting in the African sun.
This one is mine, I found some super glue but everything else is attached by magic. When a project uses design thinking it creates an interdisciplinary approach to creating innovation solutions to vexing problems. Many business enterprises have adopted this approach as a means for teams to work together. It is a process involving empathy, framing the problem, creating ideas, building forward using prototypes then testing the prototypes. The idea is to fail soon and cheaply to figure out what works and then improve the design through another iteration. So often in education we try to design everything up front, perfectly designed, making curriculum that is teacher proof. But maybe it would be better to think of curriculum as a prototype that is intended to be tested...When we design our lives it is good to remember there are many ways that things can work out so that we have a creative joyful life...there is not an ultimate individual path, there are many good paths.
